10 Packing Hacks for Moving Abroad!

Hola from Peru!!
We have actually remained in Peru for 4 days now and we've already fallen for this country and individuals. Your prayers are felt and God has already provided in incredible methods. We will remain in Lima for the next number of days, then we head to Cusco where we will be living with a Peruvian household for a month while we go to language school. At language school I, Devyn, will be continuing to learn Spanish, while Julian will learn Quechua, the native language.

Anyways, as we were preparing to relocate to Peru and talking with people about moving to another country, we discovered that nearly everybody wondered to know precisely HOW we were going to pack for our move. So prior to we dove into how things are going here in Peru, we believed we 'd share with y' all 10 hacks that we discovered in packaging to move overseas ... Enjoy!
1. Start Packaging EARLY & Do it in Stages.
Packing is overwhelming (I will be saying that a lot in this blog site haha) and if you resemble most of us, you have a great deal of stuff, so leaving everything for the eleventh hour will stress you out more. You may forget things or perhaps take too much. Julian and I began about 3 months beforehand by getting rid of clothes and things we didn't require here and there (so many trips to Goodwill). And we also began purchasing trunks early due to the fact that they can get pretty costly so spreading out that out assists. I also began publishing advertisements early on Facebook to offer our furnishings and from that we had good friends buy a lot of our stuff in advance to select it up when we were prepared to move. Likewise making a list of whatever that remains in each trunk is something Julian and I forgot to do but can be found in convenient when handling customizeds.

2. Take Pictures of Your Home
This is really for the memories. The home we left was our very first house together and it implied a lot to us. So the pictures are simply for us to remember and maybe show our future family one day, to know where everything began.

3. Loading Cubes!!
I have actually been an advocate for packing cubes given that my trip to El Salvador a year back. On that journey, I might only take a carry on with me and had the ability to fit 2 weeks worth of clothes and toiletries!!! Needless to say we bought as many of them as we could and were able to get the majority of my clothes into one suitcase. I won't lie, though packing cubes are great, loading all my clothes and trying to make them all fit and not discuss the 50-lb limit was EXCEPTIONALLY DEMANDING and caused me numerous breakdowns haha (just being truthful).

4. Find Someone Who Lives/Has Lived Where You Are Going & Ask Them ANY & ALL Questions.
This is something a lot of other people where telling us to do and truthfully we didn't think it was that essential ... at first. However a couple of months prior to leaving and becoming overwhelmed by not knowing what to load we connected to another physician called Ari, who is really presently living in the house we will be moving into. She has truly been a God-send. I emailed Ari at least 3 times a week up until we moved here. I asked her anything to everything: from the size of the kitchen area shelves to whether we required to bring rain boots.

5. Toss a Packing Celebration!
Invite someone over who is a master at Tetris, who has no problem telling you "you do not require that", and who can manage you being stressed out. Our good friend Sandra was another God-send for us !! She came over (ON HER DAY OFF) and invested the entire day, going through our stuff, making the calls we couldn't make on what we need to bring, contribute, or shop. She assisted us pack everything in our trunks and assisted make it all fit without being over 50 lbs. THANK YOU SANDRA!!!

6. Find Out to Let Go ...
At the end of the day you are moving overseas and can not take everything with you and will have to release a lot ... A LOT of your stuff. For me it was shoes, for Julian ... he had this insane thing about keeping EVERY pen he owned because college. Hahha. Why idk, but with Sandra's assistance Julian is now devoid of his pen dependency. Hahah!

7. Bless Others with Your Stuff!
This was probably my preferred part about moving. Like I said earlier, we took many journeys to Goodwill, but we also allowed our good friends to go through all of our things and let them take whatever they wanted. It was actually neat to know that our things were entering into the homes of individuals we love!!

8. Bring Things that You Will Miss!
In talking with Ari and other individuals that have actually done what we are doing like Julian's moms and dads, everyone said the very same thing, BRING THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL MISS. For us, excellent bed linen was really important, likewise great knives, a few framed images of our family and friends, and PEANUT BUTTER (apparently peanut butter is not a thing in other nations)! So that's what we made certain to pack!

9. Relax and Take A 2nd ... Numerous Seconds ... to Make Fun Of Your Scenario!!
As I have actually discussed, packing is frustrating. At any quality it can truthfully make or break you. Don't let it break you. Take a second to yell, acknowledge the mayhem around you, and then simply laugh since it is nuts. What you are attempting to do is insane: your home has actually never looked worse, you are sleeping on a floor, and taking a shower without a shower curtain while trying not to get too much water on the flooring, eating out of the very same bowl for each meal, and just have one great shirt because all the rest of your clothes are loaded. You're not living your normal life and its overwhelming, however if you look at a range, its also amusing, so LAUGH! hahhaha! Likewise get out of your house, go explore the city you are leaving, meet up with friends, and enjoy yourself, that truly assisted us when packing was dragging us down!

10. Document the experience!
Its actually enjoyable to look back now on just how much Julian and I performed in such little time. Here are some photos of our last couple of months in Houston!
